Lafayette Park, Kennedy Administration
This photograph of Lafayette Park was taken in May 1962 by George F. Mobley and Bates Littlehales during the administration of John F. Kennedy. Featured in the foreground is Clark Mills' equestrian statue honoring President Andrew Jackson, which stands near the center of Lafayette Square. In the background, a photographer, possibly George F. Mobley, stands on a firetruck ladder to capture an elevated perspective of the White House. The photograph shoot was for the cover of the first edition of "The White House: An Historic Guide," a publication released by the White House Historical Association to serve as a companion to White House tours.
